Welcome to the 22nd Herbstseminar 2026!

It is possible for every participant to present their scientific work. All diploma, master and PhD students should give a talk. This is not only a burden but also a good chance to present your scientific results to Peter, Ivo, Rolf and all the others of the Bompfünewerer consortium at the same time.

New this year, will be a exclusive user area where all talks will be uploaded in the evening so everyone can go through the talks again in peace and perhaps start better conversations with the respective speakers. If someone does not agree with this internal publication, he can indicate this when uploading the files or let us know personally. As this year is a test run for this area, there may be problems. But we assume the best. :)

As usual, we provide a video projector (with VGA & HDMI port) and a laser pointer for the presentations. New this year is the option to upload your PDF in advance in your personal user page. Alternatively, you can bring the talks in a PDF format on USB-stick. If you would like to have a PowerPoint or something else, this is also possible. However, if you want your talk shared on the internal user page, it is necessary to bring a PDF-version. If you cannot provide your talk on USB stick nor upload the files, please bring all necessary equipment with you.

During your registration there are four types of talks to choose between: introductory talk (5 minutes), regular talk (15 minutes), extended talk (25 minutes) and the "Late night show" (45 minutes). For a detailed explanation checkout the talk guide linked below. A meaningful (preliminary) title should be given during the registration process in order to schedule talk sessions.

The surrounding area is beautiful and invites for hiking, so do not forget proper shoes. We will also organize a hiking tour on one day with our own internal "Wanderführer" and inform you of the meeting point on your arrival. Please ensure you bring comfortable clothing suitable for hiking, a water bottle, and any personal items you may need for the day. Looking forward to a great adventure together!

Join us for a session of PowerPoint Karaoke! Watch as participants tackle completely random slides, creating presentations on the fly. Expect bizarre charts, odd images, and plenty of surprises. It's a fun, light-hearted event where quick thinking and humor are key. Whether you're presenting or just enjoying the chaos, come for the laughs and stay for the scientific jargon!

Heyho Ballers, didn't you always wanted to dunk? In Doubice it's possible, the hoop is at a height of only 2.50m!!! And this year... theeeeeeere will be the first 3X3 DBBWC (Doubice Bioinformatics Basketball World Championships), 1x5min per game or the first team to score 10 points, free-throw shoot-out in case of a tied game. Amazing prices are waiting for the winning teams, so what are YOU waiting for? Bring your Sneakers, some sport cloths and find your balling buddy's either in advance or directly on-site. Looking forward to seeing you on court. Remark: Only smooth games, no hard competitions, totally chill. Fun should be the primary focus.

There will be a dancing workshop this year. Details will be announced soon.

We're excited to announce a game night this year! It's a perfect opportunity to connect, build and also (occasionally) destroy friendships. Feel free to bring along any games you'd like to play, such as board games, card games, or party games (or Monopoly, if you really want to see the world burn). Join us for an evening of entertainment and friendly competition!

Join us for a round of table tennis! Everyone is welcome, whether you're an experienced player or just playing for fun. Please bring your own paddle if you have one.

By Czech law, we are required to check your valid passport/ID upon arrival. A driver's license is not sufficient. Please make sure to have your documents at hand upon check-in. Additionally, by German law, you need to carry your valid passport/ID with you while entering / leaving Germany.

Please note that there are no shopping facilities in Doubice directly, but A meal is available for favourable prices at nearby restaurants. Also there is no ATM available! Payment with any cards will not be possible! You can pay in Euro, however with a "bad" rate, or in Czech korunas. Please, ensure that you have enough money for additional meals, drinks, etc.

There are no ATMs nearby, and paying by card can be difficult. We recommend bringing some cash. You can pay in euros, but the local exchange rates may not be favorable. It's better to exchange for Czech crowns at home. Generally, €50-75 worth of crowns should be sufficient. A 0.5 liter Kofola costs around 50 crowns (€2), and a meal at a restaurant about €10. Some restaurants do accept card payments. It's advisable to exchange money as a group.

On the way through the neighbourhood during night time, you might need a flashlight.

WiFi is available in Hotel Jef, but might not cover all rooms equally.

The conference fee includes accommodation at Hotel Jef. Please ensure you transfer the fee within the registration period. After successful registration, you will receive an email with your registration details and the payment information.

If you need to cancel for any reason, email us as soon as possible. Please note that we cannot reimburse registration fees for cancellations after 30.08.2026.

If you pay your conference fee within 7 days of registration, you'll automatically be entered into a raffle to win one of our exclusive Herbstseminar cups. A must-have for any Herbstseminar enthusiast like you!

The registration / check-in will be in the dining room of Hotel Jef on 04.10.2026 from 2pm to 6pm. If you are arriving prior to registration, please do not check in with the hotel, but wait for the organizing team. We will hand the key and registration information over to you. Please note that late-night registration will not be supported after 10 pm even for those running late.
